X-Message-Number: 20792 From: "b.waugh" <> References: <> Subject: Summary of the 3rd meeting of the Toronto local response group Date: Sun, 5 Jan 2003 22:33:43 -0500 The Toronto local response group had its 3rd meeting on December 21. The group now has 14 members. Its purpose is to assist in cryonics cases in the Toronto area. The group includes a nurse, a lawyer, a computer expert, and an engineer who has assisted in many suspensions. Some are Alcor members, some CI, and others neither yet- one member completed his sign-up papers at the meeting! It was the group's first meeting since the November 4 cryonics case of a CI member (described by Ben Best in a prior message to this discussion list). Roles for the group had been assigned at the prior meetings. This proved valuable when the November 4 case arose- members of the group were able to provide a response of very high-quality. The attendees at the December 21 meeting were able to add roles to the list based on the learnings of the November 4 case. For example, issues relating to ice are being followed up. Some issues have, by necessity, been resolved- for example, finding a co-operative funeral director, finding a co-operative doctor, reviewing legal issues, assessing current equipment. The roles list has now grown to 20. Here are two examples: acquiring additional equipment; arranging training for the group. Some information relating to needs of a local response group is on a public website: http://www.benbest.com/cryonics/localres.html . Information that is private to the group has been entered on a website to which access is restricted to the members. Our next meetings will be March 1 and March 29.
