That list went up last week, got batted back and forth by several folks, and has now apparently become stable. If this is how Americans see themselves, is it any surprise the rest of the world is recoiling in horror? But that's not why I copy it here. The reason I'm posting is that, of course, all the cryonics orgs are in America. This is because the USA has maintained its internal freedom, prosperity, and diversity longer than any other country. But life is change, and what we're seeing in America now really changes everything. What happens to the USA now has consequences for every single one of us who hope to live long no matter where we make our homes. The question then is, if the US slides any further toward Orwellian dictatorship, should the orgs consider relocating some place where common law and parliamentary democracy, at least, remain intact? Places like: Canada: stable government, friendly people, open minds. Also relatively easy to transport equipment and bodies to by road. Britain & Australia: similar, though historically the governments there follow US trends, and both have experienced governmental excesses in recent times. Switzerland: might be ideal as far as stability, wealth, and tolerance go. But it's not exactly open to immigration. Holland: politically and culturally an ideal. Physically it's in danger of inundation on a regular basis. Other places worth considering? Or is America is still the best place for us? Peter Merel.
