As far as I know, he was not.

You might expect science fiction authors to be more likely to sign 
up.  There are (I think) two of them signed up, but that's all I know 
about.  Ones who have been approached but declined include Arthur C. Clark, 
Robert Heinlein, and Fred Pohl.

Since Virginia Heinlein died recently, the information on her effect on 
Robert might become public knowledge.
