To David Pizer:
In response to your question regarding organ
transplantation protocols, I will quote you from
M.O.R.E. Toronto, Canada (multiple organ retrieval and
exchange program of Ontario)

Criteria For Organ Donation:
1. Brain dead by legal and medical criteria
2. Intact heartbeat and circulation
3. Apneic, on ventilator
4. Absence of:
 a) sepsis or transmittable disease
 b) cancer, except primary brain tumour
 c) an individual of any age, with a
cardio-respiratory death, may be a candidate for
tissue and eye donation.

Brain Death Criteria:
1. Known cause of condition
2. Diagnosis made in absence of hypothermia (temp >
32.2 deg. celsius) and central nervous system
depressants and muscle relaxants
3. Cerebral unresponsiveness
4. Absence of brain stem reflexes
pupillary, extraocular, corneal, gag, and cough
reflexes are absent. Spinal reflexes do not negate
organ donation
5. No spontaneous respiration
6. Condition Irreversible
   - duration of observation depends on clinical
judgement. Two physicians independent of the
transplant team should determine brain death in
accordance of accepted medical practice
7. Absence of intracranial blood flow by cerebral
radionucleotide scan or arteriogram ( if performed)

Because of the urgent need for organs, any previously
healthy individual should be considered for organ
donation.

I hope this is helpful
