I've been working at www.ideosphere.com to assess the risk of SARS
developing into a major epidemic.

Can SARS be contained? Well, it it is contained it will mean a radical
readjustment in american life:
During the 1918 influenza epidemic bars, dance halls and other public
places were largely shut down for a year.

If the epidemic is to be slowed down or contained in the US, it won't be
by wimpy measures. It will mean shutdown of much international traffic
to the US. Businesses will need to learn to use the Web/phone instead of
face to face negotiations. Telecommuting will need to be promoted as a
public safety measure.
