Subject: Eternity As a Worthy Goal

Francois closes his messages with:

> No lifespan shorter than eternity is acceptable

whereas Yvan Bozzonetti in #21738 says:

>I think "eternity" is merly a sign of irresponsability and asking for a dead
>end religiosity.

My feeling is on the side of Francois, brash though his statement may be.
My book, *Forever for All*, in the opening sentence states, "a life rightly
lived is never rightly ended." If we live our lives properly there should
never be a time when we feel we want a permanent end to it all. Given that,
we will seek a way to avoid deanimation, or, if it is inevitable, a way,
somehow, to return after whatever calamity must follow. (Today we are
attempting this through cryonics.) We thus would approach eternity, not in
one fell swoop but inductively, moment-by-moment, a little piece at a time,
using our hopefully developing wisdom, talents, and understanding of the
world. This I think would be a responsible approach that would not deny the
value of striving for an endless life.
