Dear Charles Platt:

While I agree with much of what you said in your last message, the last passage
bothers me. The fact that others --- even the vast majority of people, believe
that we have strange ideas or wrong ideas should not matter at all. Truth is
not a matter of majority opinion. Nor for that matter is morality. While I
certainly don't advocate using force to convert (if that is possible!) someone
to my point of view (unless in extreme cases --- since for everything there is

an extreme case which tests it severely), and would be polite to any fundament-
alist I happened to meet on the street or in a grocery store, I would still
say that my views are superior. If we live in a society in which many people

have views of their own, we simply can't scream at anyone with whom we disagree.
BUT ALL VIEWS ARE NOT EQUAL. There is no Equal Rights Law for beliefs, nor
should there be.

I mention this because of the last passage in your message. It may even have 
just been a simple slip of the pen.
