Subject: re 23146 long lines in archive

Christine Gaspar asks why the archive messages are all in long lines rather
than word wrapped.

The archive messages have been got at in some way to stop the "view source"
button from working. However this can be got around by saving them as html
and then opening the saved file with notepad.

Having done so, I then found that if the

instructions were
removed and the saved file re-saved, then the line wrapping worked OK if the
re-saved file is viewed in the browser.

I am not suggesting that every reader does this as it is too long winded,
but if the server can be modified not to include

, then the
messages may be rendered normally by the browser. The Courier font is lost,
but I don't see that the use of the browser default font should cause undue
hardship. Also it may be necessary to include a few
statements
throughout the header. Alternatively the
could be at the start of the
title lines, and the
at the end, and the rest can be in browser
default font.

I appreciate that this requires a little change to the system, but if others
share this difficulty it could be worthwhile.

Alternatively senders could press enter at the end of very line
like this instead of letting their system word wrap. This message
is composed using Outlook Express -- it will be interesting
to see if this bit is word wrapped or not. The disadvantage of
doing it this way is that if you change any text within a paragraph
you have to re-set all the end of the lines.
