It will take approximately three years to develop a medication. <del> The trouble with such medication is that (at least in the UK - probably elsewhere too) it seems organisationally impossible for the medical profession to attend to a person with a stroke in the time scale provided. When my father had a stroke about five or six years ago, it took several hours even to get him admitted to hospital, and then it was several days before he was given a scan to see which sort of stroke it was. The only way a TRPM7 channel blocker would work is for everyone (or at least everyone thought to be at risk) to have a supply at home and to use it when needed. This would only work on a practical level if there was no risk in someone taking it if they didn't really need it. It would also only work if the thinking pattern of medical authorities was totally different to the way it is now, and I cannot see that happening in 30 years let alone three. But still, the existence of such products will act as a force to push for such change eventually, and if doctors fail you there is always the Internet :-). -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley Reeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=23199
