Subject: Re:Bedford Day

I meant to send out a message yesterday, to wish everyone a happy Bedford
Day too. (So busy I forgot.) James Bedford, frozen Jan. 12, 1967, was the
first person cryopreserved under controlled conditions with intent to
reanimate. He is currently stored at Alcor and has been since the 1980s. He
was examined in 1991--cube ice packed around his body at the time of his
freezing was still unmelted, indicating he'd stayed frozen the whole time.
(This included a period when his relatives were maintaining him in a
mini-warehouse, prior to Alcor's taking over his care.) Anyway, Bedford is
a sort of patron saint of cryonauts--once again, a belated but happy
Bedford Day.

Another cryonics anniversary that is coming up will be the 40th anniversary
of the (commercial) publication of _Prospect of Immortality_, June 5.
