But, since I offered my opinion about the WAY off topic post of Global warming, Cryonet has been pretty tame. "...To quiet..." (What the throwaway characters in horror movies say before the monster gets them.) Anyway, I wanted to apologize if my suggestion about global warming made people be concerned about politics in general on this site. The BIG NEWS? (Kind of like the paper after 9/11/01...there IS no other news.) And yes, this sure as HECK ought to be on this site... The SUSPENDED ANIMATION, INC. situation, which was REJECTED by the Boca Raton city council last night (vote 5 to 0) is TOTALLY on topic. And very disappointing. Rick had a good posting on Cryonet cafe asking a bunch of "What happens now?" questions. I had a private phone call conversation with David Schumaker, in which he explained a bit of HOW the situation came up. We all had wondered how such obviously smart people could make what appeared to be a ridiculous blunder of signing a lease without a zoning approval clause. But, as it was explained to me, there was a series of events, an extremely unfortunate confluence of events, which made this happen. Because part of the conversation was in confidence, I won't go in to the details until the Davids (Schumaker and Hayes) choose to go public with the history. But the bottom line was a lot of plain old fashioned "bad luck." A tough one to beat. This is a dark day for progress in cryonics research. BUT the march of progress WILL continue. We WILL persevere. Science, rationality, and longevity have a history of eventually triumph over superstition, irrationality, and death. As Saint Paul would say in less secular contexts, "Keep the Faith!"
