But go back 200 years, and you still find people creating automobiles! http://www.katylon.com/harisauto/c_1st/1st.htm Go back, in fact to 1673 (using above link) -- yes they are still there, or at least an engine is. A few "lone wolfs" start getting an eccentric interest, and in this case it is about a quarter of a millennium between initial concept and mass production. The principle behind the CD and mobile telephones were first patented in the 1930s. Its inventor actually said that it would never be used for entertainment. Dr Benz said that only about 2000 people in the world would be capable of driving a car. In the early days of voice telephony, the concept was ridiculed because telegraphy professionals suggested that everyone would require a professional operator in their own homes. My point here is that people who decry cryonics and say that reanimations will never be possible need to think in terms of appreciable fractions of millennia rather than a few decades. In 1673, who could have considered seriously the uses to which the spark ignition engine is put today? Impossible, they would have said. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley Reeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=24076
