TO Dave Pizer:

Since you want suggestions for a special cryonics day, why not the day
on which the first man to be suspended who still remains suspended
was suspended? That is, Bedford. I know there was at least one attempt
before Bedford, which failed, and as every cryonicist knows or should
know, a larger number of attempts after him which also failed. Bedford
has the distinction of being the first suspendee who so far still
remains suspended. Given all that's happened since, that looks to me
like a rather important distinction.

Besides, for Bedford's sake, making his suspension the date of cryonics
day might actually help his own suspension to continue. And for other
cryonicists, now living, he gives a lesson: no matter how well developed
the technology of suspension becomes, it means nothing at all unless
you remain in suspension. It was certainly not an easy road that
Bedford has followed so far, and we can hope that our own roads will
turn out easier --- even if we're not awake to watch.

Best wishes and long long life to all,

                   Thomas Donaldson
