X-Message-Number: 24348 Date: Tue, 06 Jul 2004 17:25:34 -0400 From: Subject: Kass, Klass, and Klatz Just so we don't get further mixed up in this discussion, let's distinguish between three similar names. Dave Pizer mistyped "Klass" when he meant "Kass" in his message about Hayflick and other promoters of aging and death. Leon R. Kass, M.D., Ph.D is the Chairman of the President's Council on Bioethics and, sadly, much admired by President Bush. http://www.bioethics.gov/about/kass.html He is against aging research, life extension in all forms, cloning, in-vitro fertilization, abortion, most forms of birth control, and lots of other ideas. I assume he would be seriously opposed to cryonics, although I don't find a direct quote. Perri Klass, M.D. http://www.reachoutandread.org/about_who.html A pediatrician and the President of *Reach Out and Read*, a children's literacy charity connected with Laura Bush. She has also written both adult and children's books, both fiction and non-fiction. I cannot find anywhere that Dr. Klass has a political agenda or has stated any opinions about life extension. Ronald Klatz, M.D, D.O http://www.worldhealth.net/p/142.html The President of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). He is one of the most public voices in favor of Life Extension and anti-aging research. He is somewhat supportive of cryonics research and considers cryonics to be a part of anti-aging and life extension. Steve Bridge Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=24348
