If there is a pandemic similar to the one in 1918 teams performing cryopreservations need to be aware of the dangers of hospital premises, which are often a source of these diseases into the local area. This was covered in CryoNet last year with regards to the SARS outbreak, but the "Avian" flu looks far more easily spread. Practises exist in UK hospitals such as encouraging people to visit relatives even when the visitors are sick themselves, and requiring people with a relative in hospital to take washing from hospitals to wash at home. If these and similar practises are not stopped the disease will spread faster and more widely.
