Subject: Brain aging

Thomas:

Your comments about the brian playing a major role in
aging is interesting in that the BioTime people in the
Bay Area believe that changes in the hypothalamus are
the cause of aging. BioTime is the company that Paul
Segal and others started to commercialize various
synthetic blood products for the surgical marketplace.

The BioTime staff are doing various experiments to
determine exactly what these changes are in the
hypothalamus that cause us to grow old. At the time, I
kind of poopooed their theory of aging because it
seemed "too simple" to me (I think Aubry de Grey's
theory to be much more likely). The fact that you
bring this us makes me reconsider it.
