MUNICH, Germany - There's more good news for chocolate lovers.
Scientists have found that eating dark chocolate appears to improve the
function of important cells lining the wall of blood vessels for at
least three hours.[cont.]

Excellent! Some good news for those at risk. However, recipes will be
needed that maximize the benefit while minimizing the weight gain potential.

FDA Panel Urges More Studies of Stroke Med

Fri Sep 10, 5:51 PM

WILMINGTON, Del. - A U.S. advisory panel on Friday recommended against
approving AstraZeneca's new stroke prevention medication, Exanta, citing
concerns about the drug's effect on the liver.

An advisory panel of physicians, meeting in Bethesda, Md., advised the
Food and Drug Administration that more long-term studies are needed to
assess the drug's safety, The (Wilmington) News Journal reported.....

......But Ruyi He, an FDA official, told the panel that clinical testing
of Exanta raised concerns that the drug could cause severe liver damage.
He also raised concerns that patients taking Exanta may have a higher
risk of heart attack.

AstraZeneca executives have portrayed Exanta as an alternative to the
widely prescribed drug warfarin. Both drugs are supposed to reduce the
risk of stroke by preventing blood clots.[cont.]

Is anyone other than I sick and tired of these drugs that have some
benefit at the risk of many and some even fatal side effects? Are there
no alternatives? Is this really the consequence of our level of chemical
science? Will it improve and if so how?

I didn't tell too many folks but I was hospitalized last month for a
week because of a bad drug reaction that ate my stomach lining and had
me puking blood for 12 hours. It was methylprednisolone prescribed for
another bad reaction that left me with a head to toe red blister rash
and danger of anaphylactic shock from contrast die used in an angiogram
on my knee. I'm still recovering.
