X-Message-Number: 24753 From: "The NanoAging Institute" <> Subject: New Cryo-protectant discovered ? Date: Sun, 3 Oct 2004 20:04:48 -0400 Graether, a post-doctoral fellow in biochemistry, also works on the microscopic scale, looking at how nature arranges the atoms of the antifreeze proteins, which inhibit ice growth. First discovered more than 30 years ago, the proteins were shown to prevent ice growth in a test tube. But while most proteins with similar functions have similar structures, Graether and the group he works with have found five different structures in antifreeze proteins. http://www.nanoaging.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=545&mode=&order=0&thold=0 --Jon Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=24753
