X-Message-Number: 2535 Subject: CRYONICS.SCI Funding Research From: (Edgar W. Swank) Date: Tue, 11 Jan 94 09:24:41 PST In CRYOMSG's 2512 and 2515 Thomas Donaldson and Rich Schroeppel bemoan that the new "CryoCare" conglomerate of cryonics organizations seems to have no provision for research. Mike Darwin should speak up here, but I think he intends to carry on research to the extent he receives research funding. Thomas Donaldson already said he gave Mike some money for research. I assume until shown otherwise that Mike either has or intends to use this money for the purpose intended. The purse for cryonics research now, which could improve our suspensions, is and will probably remain thin. In years past, ACS has been a conduit for sometimes substantial tax-deductible donations for research and we may be again. But I'm funding (at least some of) my own revival research. I've left instructions that a small part of the -growth- of my estate each year after I'm suspended be used for research that could contribute to my revival. Of course this will start off small, but after a few hundred years could be massive! I would encourage by fellow cryonauts to make similar provisions. -- (Edgar W.
