X-Message-Number: 2580 From: (Thomas Donaldson) Subject: CRYONICS Re: Cryonics and Quackery Date: Sun, 30 Jan 1994 07:22:10 -0800 (PST) Greetings! I thank Mike for his comments. If he thinks a bit he will know that I too have been in considerable contact with people in the medical profession --- perhaps not for the reasons Mike has, but we'll let that pass. It seems to me that at this point there is little ARGUMENT either of us can provide that will make any difference in the opinions of the other. I propose that we: 1. "Keep our powder dry" for any future trouble (I'm repeating the end of my last message, in which I said that I too did not feel we can simply ignore the possibility of opposition). 2. Let history decide. If Mike turns out to be correct (in terms of major opposition to cryonics by authorities of all kinds) I will tell him so, from whatever trenches we happen to be fighting the war. If I turn out to be correct, I'd like Mike to extend me the same privelege. Fundamentally we can go round and round for a long time discussing what will happen in the future --- which cannot by definition be KNOWN by either of us. I believe I have adequately explained my own opinion. If Mike has more to say, unless I feel that he has unwittingly misrepresented me, I will remain silent. And maybe we've just been speaking to a different class of doctors. The real question this issue raises, of course, is what we should DO. I don't believe I differ from Mike all that much on that central issue. If Mike has further suggestions about what should be DONE, rather than what will happen, I and other people on Cryonet will be very glad to hear them. Best, and a long long life to all, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=2580
