X-Message-Number: 26144 Date: Sat, 07 May 2005 04:14:04 -0400 From: Subject: To Jonano: Not-for-Profits that are Not Jonano requests feedback to the idea of CryoQuebec. Any cryonics organization that solicits donations from the public may be successful, provided it is set up properly as a legitimate not-for-profit organization, complete with board of directors, preferably democratically elected by the organization's membership (although one has been doing pretty well even with a self-perpetuating board), and has a mission and program clearly understandable to convey some public worth related to cryonics. If it is perceived that you are just you, informally operating a program with unclear purpose and/or that leaves open the possibility of funds being diverted to personal use, you may get a few $20 or so donations from well-wishers, but you probably won't get the large support you appear to crave. Cryonics organizations having all the necessary factors in place have enough of a problem getting folks to spring loose with large donations.
