X-Message-Number: 26312 From: "Jerry Lemler" <> Subject: June 12 Date: Sat, 11 Jun 2005 11:12:42 -0700 Today, June 12, is the seminal day in our discipline. It was on this day in 1964 that Robert Ettinger's book "The Prospect of Immortality" was released to the general public, thereby launching our movement. In terms of absolute numbers, by any objective account, Bob's "freezer program" has been a disappointment. Yet, in technology and anticipated future advancements, we have clearly outdistanced the projected pace of 41 years. Thanks and appreciation are due to so many courageous individuals, obviously too numerous to mention by name in such a format. I do, however, ask all cryonicists of "every stripe" to pause for a moment of reflection on this austere day, to ask ourselves how best we can carry out the principles for which we stand, and to offer mutual respect to others within our limited field of endeavor, though these others may see a different way of reaching our ultimate goal. Should we do so, we just might see a future in which we inhabit a world where we're among many of our friends, and yes, some of our (narrowly perceived) "enemies". Wouldn't that be quite a trip, indeed? On this June 12, I say to all of my fellow cryonicists; those I love, those I like, those I feel indifferent towards, and yes, those I detest, unabashedly saying, I hope to see you all on many June 12ths for centuries to come.
