If it comes down to a choice of picture-encoding methods, I strongly prefer GIF. My basic reason comes from the fact that I'm not using a "standard" computer and GIF was designed to be usable very widely. And I will also say that for anyone who feels that their computer is standard and their software won't disappear because it is standard may also need to remember that "standard" changes with time. This doesn't mean that software shouldn't change. But whatever we choose to use should take account of the fact that many different kinds of computers other than Macs and PCs are still in active use. Cryonet messages (and pictures)should not limit themselves to a limited class of computers, however numerous.
