With sufficient cryoprotectant to prevent freezing damage, any kidney cooled to liquid nitrogen temperature will transiently produce urine when reperfused with blood even if every cell in it is doomed to die from cryoprotectant toxicity and chilling injury. Years ago 21CM transplanted a rabbit kidney (much larger than a rat kidney) after cooling to liquid nitrogen temperature, and the animal produced urine for several days before the kidney ultimately failed. We reported this result off-handedly at a recent cryobiology meeting. We don't believe that results of this nature warrant a paper, let alone a press release. ---Brian Wowk --NextPart_Webmail_9m3u9jl4l_3967_1122927633_0 Content-Type: text/html [ AUTOMATICALLY SKIPPING HTML ENCODING! ] Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=26748
