First, Alcor's President and CEO, Joe Waynick, has decided to leave Alcor and pursue other interests. We received his resignation effective August 28, 2005. Joe has been President and CEO for nearly two years. He will continue to be an Alcor member. We wish Joe the best in going forward. Steve Van Sickle will temporarily assume the role and responsibilities of day-to-day operations of Alcor, acting as our Executive Director. Steve has a long history with Alcor, having become a member in 1992. Early in his membership, he assisted in engineering Alcor's crackphone and Air Transportable Perfusion (ATP) systems. In 1999, Steve was elected as a Member of the Board of Directors; and in February 2005, he joined Alcor's staff as the Technical Development Leader. We believe Steve is an excellent choice to lead Alcor's staff during this transition. The Board has commenced its search for a new President and CEO. A search committee, to be headed by Board Chairman, Dr. Michael Riskin, will be formed, and inquiries will be made across the country and around the world for qualified candidates. This is an opportune time to further Alcor's goals. Accordingly, the Board's search committee will take the necessary time to identify and retain the sort of leader who can take us to the next level. Second, on another matter, we have learned that a substantial sum of money is missing from Alcor. We suspected that a former employee misappropriated approximately $180,000. Last week, the police arrested former Alcor bookkeeper, Tim Reeves. While Mr. Reeves has yet to be tried on these charges and is innocent until proven guilty, the police have informed us that he has confessed to most of the theft. We are cooperating with the Scottsdale prosecutor assigned to this matter, and we will keep you informed as the case progresses. We are also working with the police and a private investigator to recover the funds. Please be assured that we have covered all member prepaid accounts through Alcor general funds and no member should be concerned about their good standing with Alcor as a result of this matter. We shall use this situation as an opportunity to strengthen the internal controls that the Alcor staff exercises to protect our organization. We have engaged our outside auditors to conduct an internal controls review and suggest procedures to ensure that this will not happen in the future. That's all the news for now. We look forward to continuing to strengthen and improve Alcor during this time of change. If you have questions or concerns about any of these issues, feel free to contact Steve Van Sickle at 480-905- 1906 ext. 104 or 877-462-5267 ext. 104 or If you or someone you know would like to be considered as a candidate for the President/CEO position, please contact Dr. Michael Riskin at (714) 313- 9129 or Alcor Life Extension Foundation ----------------------------------------------------------- Next Board Meeting The next Board meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 11:00 AM (MST). Board meetings are typically held on the first Saturday of the month at the Alcor facility (7895 East Acoma Drive in Scottsdale, AZ). Members and the public are encouraged to attend. =========================================================== End of Alcor News bulletin #42 dated September 3, 2005. Distribution: 768 subscribers.
