You were talking about reducing the cost further. You can't use a DIY strategy because that is already factored into the current cost. >I can make a solar oven...for pennies or even for nothing at all. It will bake bread. Unfortunately, you can't make an electrical generator for pennies. Can you? >the heat loss per patient would be srikingly lower But LN2 is not one of the major expenses of running a cryonics organization. Not even close. >if your cryogenic storage chamber is underground, sizable... >[cost] lower than for storage in individual dewars. But building the cryogenic storage chamber IS a significant expense in cryonics organizations. And your storage chamber sounds way more expensive than the ones being used now. I don't think my skepticism was premature. This is not a new suggestion. However, feel free to prove me wrong. I would love to see someone give it a shot. I'm just having trouble visualizing how you're going to: 1. dig a giant hole in the desert 2. construct a chamber at low cost. Don't forget about the expensive stairwell/elevator. 3. build a reliable solar collector at low cost 4. obtain an electrical steam generator at low cost 5. obtain an LN2 generator at low cost 6. obtain/maintain a bank of batteries to run the lights, etc. 7. Keep all this equipment running. How do you clean all those mirrors, for instance? 8 What about all the other expensive equipment, like a perfusion system? The chamber and LN2 is just the tip of the expense iceburg.
