X-Message-Number: 2726 Date: Sat, 7 May 94 11:43:00 EDT From: Subject: CRYONICS I saw the "Picket Fences" episode on cryonics last night and was pleasantly surprised. The screenwriters actually managed to get most of the typical arguments for and against cryonics into the script, and they were fairly coherent. Admittedly, the repeated use of "genetic technology" to cover all of "medical technology" grated, and they should have picked a different medical case for a pre-mortem suspension argument, but still, not bad. It may not have been a mass media version of the FAQ files, but it was no "Forever Young". I particularly enjoyed the mayor's speech, a very eloquent argument for the freedom to make ones own medical choices. I was, of course, disappointed in the ruling given.
