Subject: Robert Ettinger resigns, John and John appointed
Date: Mon, 5 Dec 2005 03:25:13 GMT

On Sunday, December 4, 2005 -- the 87th birthday of Robert Ettinger -- the
"father of cryonics" (who says he would rather be the grandson)
has officially resigned as Vice-President of the Cryonics Institute. Mr.

Ettinger will remain a Director until he comes up for re-election next
September,
at which time he intends to resign as a CI Director as well.

Robert Ettinger has put in a great many years of effort and responsibility
in order to assist the bringing of his idea to fruition -- much more than he
bargained for and much more than he would have preferred. We owe him
a great deal of appreciation for this. As for his motives, he is still a very
articulate man and those who want further explanation can get it directly
from the source, by asking. Attempts have been made to get him to
reconsider, but he seems determined that this is the right thing for him to do.

The CI Board of Directors has selected John de Rivaz as the new Vice-President

of the Cryonics Institute. John is well-known for his long and public
participation
in life extension and cryonics (he began publishing LONGEVITY REPORT in 1987),
and this familiarity makes him an excellent candidate. Although we have had
European Directors previously, with John as our new Vice-President there should
be no reason to question CI's commitment to doing the best we can to make
cryonics available overseas as well as in North America.

Robert Ettinger has also resigned as Vice-President of the Immortalist Society.

THE IMMORTALIST editor John Bull has volunteered to take over as Vice-President

of IS, and this has been approved by IS President York Porter, with no objection
from
the other IS Directors. Thanks to John Bull for this, as well as for his
dependable production of the magazine.

-- Ben Best, President, Cryonics
Institute
