Beta carotene induces some undesirable changes in skin pigmentation. I
am wondering myself whether those taking supplements containing beta
carotene may experience increased risk because of a concurrent decrease in
the intake of healthy beta carotene containing fruits and vegetables. If
this is the case, then a beta carotene supplement might not be dangerous
by itself, but instead may encourage unhealthy dietary practices.
