Subject: Re: Dr. de Grey on 60 Minutes

Jordan, from your Message #27458 yesterday:

Yes, I was pleased to see that 60 Minutes segment and hope others did too.

On Aubrey D.N.J. de Grey, Ph.D., you write in part:

"The first thing that struck me is that he needs
some dental work to correct his terrible lisp. I
know that's not entirely fair of me since it's
unrelated to the main topic, but I think it says
something about his credibility if he neglects
his teeth."

I believe actively neglecting ones teeth in England may be some kind of

state requirement or regulation or something for maintaining citizenship -- but
don't hold me to it. Maybe I read it somewhere or something?

I did not really noticed his teeth, but the lisp, I noticed. It was even

more noticeable with the English accent. And was even more noticeable still in
Atlanta when he was talking unusually fast when speaking at The Immortality
Institute's inaugural one-day Life Extension Conference (Nov. 5, 2005.) Good
speech. By the way, that was a real interesting meeting. There were some
other super speakers there too. I'd get into it but wouldn't know where to

start and where to stop but I will say it was good to see and hear Ben Best
again
(who I suspect to be one of the smartest most straightforward honest guys I
have ever met); and to meet Brian Wowk in person for the first time who comes
across as a typical warm & friendly young family doctor -- but not Oriental
as I was expecting; and the powerhouse Ralph Merkel (and his wife) who could
not be nicer -- not to say that Ralph may not always suffer fools real

gladly: I remember his witty slam-dunk repartee from the podium regarding some

dismissive quote written by some contrarian scientist or another on some issue
or another.

Anyway, I doubt Dr. de Grey is too concerned about his credibility taking
any lick'n from what I have seen, heard and read. He's taken pretty seriously
on the scientific side, and on the social side, being a good beer guzzler

makes up for any and all sins in my book including accents, lisps, teeth, real
long beards, etc. We'll be hearing more from him I'm sure. Aubrey's a trip.
