Nederland Citizens to Fight Cryonics Ban

(NEDERLAND, Colorado) The Freeze Tax Waste Committee, a group
of concerned Nederland residents, has proposed a referendum to
over-turn a recently enacted town ordinance that outlaws
cryonics in the Town of Nederland. On Friday, May 20, members
of the Freeze Tax Waste Committee delivered a statement of
intent to Nederland town officials which says that they plan
to circulate petitions to place the referendum on the ballot.
When the petition is approved, the citizens will have 15 days
to collect enough signatures to place it on the ballot.

Once the statement of intent is filed, the new
ordinance cannot be enforced until the issue is brought to a
	vote of the people.

Joseph Vigorito, director of the Freeze Tax Waste
Committee decided to put the matter to a vote of the people
because it will save the town of Nederland at least S 100,000.
"Wasting taxpayer money to ban cryonics in the town is
ridiculous," says Vigorito. "Putting this on the ballot will
put the issue to rest once and for all."

On Wednesday, May 17, the Nederland Board of Trustees
adopted emergency ordinance #379. The ordinance makes it a
nuisance to "keep bodies" on your property. It gives the town
legal power to enforce the nuisance law and assess the cost to
the property owner. The ordinance was aimed at Norwegians Aud
Morstoel and her son, Trygve Bauge who are currently storing
the body of Morstoel's father on dry ice in Nederland. Bauge
has vowed to fight the town, taking the issue to the
	U.S. Supreme Court, if necessary.

The tide seems to have turned, and I expect to win the battles both against
the townhall in Nederland and against the INS, though both battles might
still take at least another 6 months before victory is actually secured.
Assistance is still very much appreciated, so that I can carry out the

In order to get a referendum going to overturn the ban on cryonics,
my attorney has to go to court to get an injunction against the town
trustees wrongful creation of an emergency ordinance. Case laws provided
by Joe Vigorito shows that the town trustees erred in making an emergency
ordinance when there was no emergency. Their objective was to use the
emergency clause so that the ordinance would take effect immediately without
a 30 day waiting period. Only by getting an injunction against the misuse
of the emergency clause can we get a referendum going over whether ot not
to kill the ordinance, thus I call upon everyone to please contribute to
our legal war chest, so that we can nip the town trustees transgressions
in the bud, without the need for a lengthy legal battle.

In response to the above let me say:
The bodies were not discovered by the police, I have routinely sent out
press releases about my cryonic facility, witness the many articles in
The Immortalist over the years, at least one Denver talk show host or
his assistant subscribe to the Immortalist, and called to have me on the
air back in February. In the end of February I sent out a press release
to all the main press outlets in the Denver area, announcing the creation
of the Rocky Mountain Life Extension center and the fact that we had two
people on dry ice and were planning to upgrade to an electrical freezer
this last spring and later upgrade to liquid nitrogen. I included a copy
of my standard contract offer as well as a copy of the contract I have
with David Tate, and there was a map showing how people could find the place.
Some of the local press mentioned my cryonics venture in general terms
while reporting on my battle with INS. Then suddenly 3 months later the
INS illegally deports me, my mother gets kicked out of our house and the
story is spread that 2 bodies are discovered in a shed! I still am trying
to sort out who did this to me and why! The two people on dry ice were
my grand father Bredo Morstoel and Al Campbell. The latter was a friend
of my Client David Tate.

The original plan called for David to ship Al in packed in an electrical
freezer. David actually bought the elctrical freezer and got it delivered
in Chicago, but found out at the last moment that he had made wrong
meassurements of Al, and that Al was 2 inches too wide to fit in the freezer.
The freezer was returned, and we used dry ice as an emergency solution
until a larger electrical freezer could be ordered. The townhall's
intervention and David's removal of Al has now postponed any upgrade
to a colder electrical freezer until I can fight off townhall. Dry ice
is not cold enough to stop the molecular break down, and needless to say
it is urgent for me to fight off the townhall so that I can attract more
cryonic patients and thus afford to upgrade to electrical freezers or
liquid Nitrogen.

I was not deported based on my cryonic activities, but because I have
pissed off the I.N.S. by organizing a political battle to close them down!
I also started a petition drive last January to have the local INS
director and deputy director fired. The INS, however, wrongfully issued
a deportation order in violation of my due process appeals rights.
And when they arrested me they refused to let me near a phone. If they
had let me call a lawyer or the federal court I could have stopped the
illegal deportation by petitioning for a writ of habeas corpus and a stay
pending the outcome of my appeal to the US Supreme Court. The Immigration
and Naturalization service knew this, and gave strict orders to all the
holding facility guards, not to let me near a phone at any cost or for
any reason. They made a token attempt at playacting a phone call after 3
days, just 1/2 an hour before they carried me onboard a plane.
(It took 6 men!) While detained I repeatedly invoked the right to call
my lawyer, the court, the consulate etc. I told the INS that it was
important that I get to call out so that I could arrange for someone
else to add dry ice. The I.N.S. officers thus knew about my cryonic
activities, but still refused to let me call out. Luckily the local
newspaper had listened in on the radio band when I got arrested,
and had written a small article the next day. Jerry saw this and called
the INS and was told that I did not want to speak to anyone! Jerry knows
me better than that, and called the Consulate and they showed up, but
weren't of much help.

The most important thing people can do for me is to spread the word, and
keep calling and writing the town trustees and the I.N.S. with objections,
and also support my attorney and the group in Nederland that is working
on getting a refferendum going to overturn the town trustees.
My attorney will also be working on getting me back to the United States.

Re: Trygve Bauge's Cryonic Facility

I request that you allow Trygve and his mother to use the cryonic
facility on their land.

Properly maintained, the facility does not pose a hazard to
anyone and should be allowed to continue its normal operation. I
trust that you will see the issue as a simple one of rights to
one's property and let Trygve, his mother Aud Morstoel, and their
friends continue to maintain the facility on their land.

Respectfully,

Subject: CRYONICS IN NORWAY

The publicity in Norway has consisted of at least the following:

Repeated Tv coverage on tv norge, tv2 and tv4

radio coverage on radio 1 and NRK ukeslutt

Repeated newspaper coverage in Dagbladed, Bergens Tidende, Verdens gang,
Romsdals budstikke and Aftenposten,

and a wire story by Norwegian Telegram Bureau.

As far as I can tell, everything was positive with 3 exceptions:

I debated one ethisist on the radio, his main concern was that if cryonics
succeeded there would be no more sorrow in life, and he couldn't stand such a
loss, I responded that I would much rather be happy!

A half brother of my grand father was interviewed and lamented the fact that
my grand father was not given a chance to rot away. I didn't think it worthy
a reply.

Aftenposten interviewed a few scientists who said that cryogenics worked for
individual cells and that serious research are being done on finding a way to
freeze organs for transplants, but that revival of whole human beings didn't
yet work and that they knew of no serious research on the latter, one of the
scientists didn't think cryonics would work, and others wouldn't rule it out.
Aftenposten then used a headline saying : Cryonics is humbug!
The other press outlets have been much more indept in their coverage, and
much more understanding of the reality of what we are offering and are trying
to accomplish, and the reasons why people want to be frozen now before
reanimation becomes a workable reality..
Svein called me and mailed me a few articles and asked me to pass these on to
the news papers so to set the record straight. and I have started doing so,
in the process answering a few general questions they had about him and his
involvment in cryonics.
Svein translated the article in Aftenposten and faxed you a copy.

We should send you the 8 full pages from Dagbladet, including full front page
in Color.
Dagbladet tracked down a local supplier of both dry ice and liquid Nitrogen
the company EIVA is a distributor for Norsk Hydro, and has outlets all over
the south eastern part of Norway. It is open 24 h/day 7 days a week!
Trond Maarvik is distribution leader for Oslo
he can be reached at

p.o.b. 47 Bryn
0611 Oslo
Smallvollveien 44
0667 Oslo

ph 011-47-22 651700
fax 011-47-22-651880
mobile ph 011-47-94-304534
private ph 011-47-64-931614

Trond remembered me from the suspension of my grand father, and I think Svein
bought dry ice from him too!

People recognize me all over the place here in Oslo and I get serious and
positive questions from people on the street. No negative feedback from
anyone on the streets. One TV station, one radio station and at least one
news paper are trying to get me to promise that I will set up a cryonic
facility here in Norway while here. I will let it be up to Svein, if he wants
to go public and help organize it I might consider helping the locals set up
a cryonic support group.

Long life,
           Trygve

Subject: CRYONICS re:Al Campbell

On Al Campbell: My contract with David Tate states clearly that all information
provided me regarding Al would be made available to the press.

Furthermore David Tate stated to me that he was the sole legal guardian of Al,
and that Al's mother had signed over to him the legal guardianship and that
though the family might not know what he was doing, they apparently had given
him free reigns.

I still think it was premature of David to move Al out of Nederland,
taken into account that my attorney and I already had made it clear that
the city couldn't do anything without a legal injunction, and the city's
attorney had already acknowledged the same.
And that she had adviced the city to try to stay out of court.
The city is not likely to get an injunction, and if they try we will fight
it all the way to the supreme court. And even if they got an injunction we
are likely to get a stay pending any appeal.

Furthermore town trustees has acknowledged in private conversations that
they don't want to thaw out anyone, but are trying to find a way to save face.

So keep up the pressure on them, they are on the defensive!
