The logical sequence, as expressed in Standard International format, 
goes from largest to smallest units, as in the digit sequence of the 
year 2-0-0-6.  So the interesting date and time of 06/05/04 03:02:01 
occurs at 1 second after 3:02 in the morning of May 4th. 

Of course, this occurs every century, so it's hardly unique to us.  But 
in any case, I think Standard International will be the formulation that 
future generations find relevant, and it is already used by the 
metric-oriented majority of the world.

And, for those who are prepared to measure tenths of a second, on June 
5th next year we will have 07/06/05 04:03:02:01

And so on....
