Agreed.  However, pessimism is still instinctive and
overblown, particularly in this gloomy cluster-f**k
moment in history.  Step back from the hysteria,
however, and you will find that the sky is NOT
falling.

That said, natural plague, biowar, nuclear war, or an
asteriod impact are still possible.  Both blind
optimism and blind pessimism are injudicious.  As
always a cautious, thoughtful, flexible, constructive
approach is the way to get where you want to go.

So basic it sounds preachy.
