Fred -- you are not helping.

The bumper sticker says it concisely:  "Lead, follow, or
get the hell out of the way!".  What I see in your
message is bellyaching, catastrophizing, pontificating,
and sniping.

I will be at the Frozen Dead Guy Days.  So will reporters.
Being there with an "Oh I'm so sorry, the big boys don't
think I should be here" attitude will help no one.

If you want to be constructive, please apply your marketing
expertise to making statements like:  "Make sure you
bring/say X, so reporters can focus on Y/take Z back to the
home office/etc."

Incidentally, given that even the most carefully constructed
statements can be infinitely edited, the only way to avoid
being misquoted is to say nothing at all -- which is just
what the death-mongers want.  I'm not giving in.
