There is a new device : the laser triggered transistor, it can commute at  

the picosecond level 30 000 amperes under 800 volts. There are military "death
ray" applications and some hope for power transmission to mobile units. That  
could be the key to both : The solar space power as envisioned by Peter Glaser 
 in 1968 and the electrics flying car !
