Subject: Look at me! I'm a transhumanist weirdo!

Keith Henson was kind enough to post this list of
transhumanists which has been installed on
Wikipedia...for the whole world to see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_transhumanists

Well, now, let's see what sorta good folks we got on
this here list!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Chislenko
Hmmm. As the entry notes, he committed suicide.
Tragic, I know, but since I am a transhumanist myself
(at least putatively, as I am a cryonicist), I really
don't want to flaunt this assocatiion before the
entire world.

How else we got here?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_Sandberg
Sez he is into "Intelligence amplification
technologies". Yeah, someone else the masses can
relate to...

And of
course....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aubrey_de_Grey

Here is his pic:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Aubrey_de_Grey_photo_authorized.jpg

Nuff said...

And of course
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eliezer_Yudkowsky

He is a real man of the people, too. His interests?
"recursive self-improvement (seed AI); and also on
artificial-intelligence architectures for stably
benevolent motivational structures (Friendly AI)."

A real down to earth guy, there.

and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Bloch is
"active in several Starfleet International affiliated
fan-clubs, and has most recently appeared in the Star
Trek fan-film series "Tales of the Seventh Fleet" in
what is purported to be a recurring role."

A trekkie? I'm SHOCKED!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Laszlo_Sandor
who "dropped out of art school shortly thereafter,
largely due to an overall disgust with higher
education, as well as an ongoing struggle with bipolar
disorder and heroin addiction."

Ok....thanks for sharing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Pepperell
"collaborated on a number of early internet and
telematic artworks, including 'Aspects of Gaia'' "

Another man of the people....

Well, I could go on. But my point is that we
cryonicists/transhumanists are already seen as weird
enough as it is. But many of us seem to be eager to
flaunt our eccentricities, our outlier differentness.

No wonder not very many people have joined us. Cuz
there aint too many people out there like us.

What we oughta do is be like THEM, be like the masses.
Well, we cannot change ourselves. But can we portray
ourselves differently?

How about adding my cryo-transhumanist alter ego --
Steve "Bud" Jones -- to that there list of
transhumanists? Here is his new entry in the wikipedia
list of transhumanists:
/////////////
Bud Jones is a transhumanist and signed up cryonicist.
He works as a mechanic down at the Friendly
Neighborhood Garage in Splendora, Texas. He
specializes in electrical harness repairs. "I like
that high tech stuff," he says. His proudest
achievements are getting his high school diploma from
Splendora High School, marrying his high school
sweetheart, getting his 4 wheel drive truck, watching
his son get a touchdown last year in 8th grade
football, and shooting a 13 point buck in 1996.

When asked why he is a transhumanist and is signed up
for cryonics, Bud answered, "Well, hell, I don't wanna
die, do you?!"

Bud belongs to the 3rd Baptist Church of Liberty
county.

//////////////

THere are a LOT more of Bud Jones types out there than
there are of the people who are on that list of
transhumanists. The fact that you all fail to realize
this, is a major blind spot. You all keep trying to
reach out to people like you and me. Bad Idea! Reach
out to people like Bud instead! They outnumber us
100,000 to 1.
