Subject: Interesting historical cryonics video

Hello, All,

Alcor activist and videographer Billy Seidel has sent me some interesting
links.

I don't usually forward postings, and links are usually annoying, but for
serious students of cryonics and cryonics history these are worthwhile.

The first reference is an article in Men's Health, documenting that even
small amounts of cooling reduces damage we associate with warm ischemia.

This article seems to confirm the cryonicist's intuitive grasp of mechanisms
of damage, and most importantly shows that even a few degrees of cooling
dramatically lengthens the time brains can maintain functionality.

The second link is more personal...and more moving emotionally. This is a
(somewhat grainy) video made 20 years ago.

Most of the "heroes" and pioneers of cryonics are here...looking a bit
younger than the individuals I saw at the Suspended Animation conference this

Spring. The video is made in 1887, and Bill Falloon, Saul Kent, Jerry Leaf,
and
Mike Darwin are featured among others.

What I found especially nostalgic and poignant is seeing some fellow

cryonicists who have died with or without "good" suspensions. A much younger
and
somewhat less jaded Mike Darwin explains why breakthroughs seem immanent.

So, perhaps we can learn a bit from this video, or at a minimum engage in a
bit of historical musings, and gain some insight into our current status in
our epic struggle against death and decay.

Forwarding follows:

Interesting article. It begins to look like Cryonic suspension might work
after all. _http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19318124_

You will see that ALCOR has been doing research on cryonic suspension for

quite a long time. The techniques described in the article is very similar to
what ALCOR has been doing since there beginning. Watch the video all the way
through and you will get some history on the subject. I made this one in
1987. There is another video I made in 2000.

So just maybe the folks that signed up to be suspended may not be crazy.

Bill

(end forwarding of Seidel email)

Warmly and Respectfully submitted, Glad to be a part of this adventure,
