Scientists back in the 1970's made public pronouncements to the effect that 
we'd have all kinds of dramatic breakthroughs in "life extension sciences" 
and cryonics by now, probably even at that Alcor conference in 1978 I 
referenced. What happened to those "breakthroughs"? Knowledge in the life 
sciences continues to accumulate, but little in the practical world seems to 
change, even after decades of alleged scientific "progress."
