In response to Jeffrey Soreff's posting (#2975) there are plans
underway to set up a facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, that could
serve as a hospice for terminally ill cryonicists. The facility
(possibly a year or so down the road) would be owned and
operated by the Society for Venturism, a nonprofit cryonics-
promoting organization not directly involved in cryonic suspension
or storage (so there'd be no conflict of interest over funds
allocated for these purposes). Recently, as many will know, Alcor
moved to the vicinity so initially at least we'd expect this operation
mainly to be of interest to Alcor members. However, Venturism is
not affiliated with any one cryonics organization and could
certainly interact with others. And, if our operation is successful,
we can expect imitators. It is worth pointing out too that we expect
our "Ventureville" to be more than just a place to deanimate; it will
have rental apartments that will hopefully attract a crowd of
healthy cryonics-oriented people, along with a few likely to need
freezing soon. (We want to have a library, museum, game room,
etc.) In general this seems to be a favorable neighborhood for
such a venture (pun noted) and we are cautiously optimistic about
the outcome.

Vice President,
Society for Venturism
