X-Message-Number: 2983 From: Max More <> Subject: CRYONICS Re: LES Newsletter: Correction for Extropy institute Date: Fri, 12 Aug 1994 10:29:52 -0700 (PDT) I want to thank Keith Lynch for including Extropy Institute (ExI) in the listing of organizations in his posting of the Life Extesnion Society's newsletter last week, and I'd like to make a couple of corrections: First, the address given was the address for the editor of our member's newsletter (who is about to move anyway). ExI's main address is: Extropy Institute 13428 Maxella Avenue, #273 Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 310-398-0375 Second, I feel that listing Extropy Institute under the heading "Other Cryonics Organizations" may mislead people. We would fit better under a title "Futurist Organizations", along with Foresight, and WFS. It's true that all the directors of ExI are signed up cryonicists, our values and goals are extremely pro-life extension, including cryonics/biostasis as _one_ possible means to that end, we discuss cryonics in our journal EXTROPY, in our newsletter EXPONENT, and on on e-mail list , thereby bringing new people into cryonics. I believe that the major story on the Extropians coming up in the October issue of Wired magazine will link us to cryonics quite strongly. Nevertheless, unlike the Society for Venturism, Extropy Institute members need not be cryonicists, nor do we even require our members to think cryonics either workable or sensible. Someone can be extropian if they affirm the goal of living an extended and augmented life yet doubt the plausibility of cryonics. Onward!
