Subject: CI , Alcor & terror management theory

Regarding the recent attacks by CI members (see the Cold Filter forum) on the
Alcor and SA methods of cryopreservation and standby protocols, I think what we
are seeing here relates to management of the terror of death.

These attacks are similar to what happens when adherents of a religion attack
nonbelievers--they see these nonbelivers as saying that the adherents will
  have no afterlife.

Terror management theory says that that religion and other similar belief
structures help people create a buffer between their everyday lives and their
  terror of death.

Likewise, some CI members are viciously attacking Alcor because they see
Alcor's more expensive and elaborate preparations as a statement that CI
preparations are inadequate and that therefore CI members will not be revived.

So the CI members are reacting the same as Christians (for example) react when
atheists say there is no afterlife--they attack because the more elaborate
procedures invoke a terror of death in some CI members. It is destroying their
spychological buffer against the fear of death.

We Alcorians, with our more expensive and elaborate cryopreservation and
standby procedures, are threatening the psychological defenses against death
that the CI members have prepared using their membership in CI.

Well, it's a theory to explain the viciousness of some of the attacks
