If aging is "deliberate" and it is the only mechanism in the universe that 
does not go wrong, then I'd say that it is strongly supportive of the 
"intelligent design" hypothesis.

However there may be a simpler explanation. These genetic events may be 
necessary in some way to maintain a complex creature against cancer and 
mutagenic infectious viruses and bacteria.

Obviously we all wish this research well, and hope that it produces speedy 
progress. But if the "simpler explanation" is right, it may not be so easy.
