It's a question similar to - "why don't many more people sign up for cryonics?" 
:) 

Cryonicists (and other 'nerdy' folks) have their blinds spot too. A major one 
being avoiding money making activities have to rely on co-operation with others.


I would suspect that this concept is common knowledge for students of economics.
