I have read these links, and think that it is an understatement that Dr Gupta
will receive a mixed reaction amongst public health advocates. I note that he
suggests "no one ever need have a heart attack again" in his LEF interview. What
about all the cardiac treatment centres built at enormous cost and all those
surgeons highly trained in specialist skills? Disruptive technology indeed.

I think there is a good chance that Mr Obama will appoint him, I hope he does,
and that should be a giant leap forward for cryonics and life extension. However
I do note that Dr Gupta thinks that taking vitamins is a waste of time and
money ( in the amazon.com article). If he is correct then we need to accept
that. Taking vitamins is not an act of religious observance, Unlike religion,
science allows for people to admit that theories and ideas were incorrect and
not "lose face". The objective is life extension. I would be very surprised if
this cannot be achieved without some form of supplementation, even if the
supplementation that most people use at present isn't exactly correct.

President-elect Obama reportedly wants a neurosurgeon who moonlights as a TV
health reporter on CNN to serve as his Surgeon General:

Dr. Gupta has written a sympathetic description of speculative technologies
for radical life extension, including cryonics, in his book "Chasing Life: New
Discoveries in the Search for Immortality to Help You Age Less Today":
