No, we are not all against "what those skeptics do" and we must not all
fight them.
Ever read Ayn Rand? The New Left, the Anti-Industrial Revolution? Do you
think the guys getting grant money for GW studies have no interest in having
a crisis to study? I don't suppose money from Soros has had anything to do
with James Hansen's shrill complaints about being silenced? (Silenced?
How?
If he's being silenced, how come he still has a job at NASA?)
It is easy to write articles accusing the skeptics of bribery. The
accused end up
on the defensive, and outsiders say "hey, where there's smoke there must
be fire!"
If you don't mind my asking, have you stopped molesting your children?

All that having been said, it is of course good to live cleanly, to pick
up after
ourselves and minimize our footprint on the world around us. Also it is
bad
that scientific work has become slave to near-term funding needs. I suppose
most of the scientists whose discoveries have got us to where we are had to
sell themselves or find patrons for their work, but it seems we had a
more civil
discourse fifty years ago when Bell Labs was inventing the transistor (and
indeed things were almost certainly better there before AT&T decided to
make the lab a profit center rather than a long-term investment.) We need
scientist to be able to pursue knowledge with longer timelines and
hazier goals,
knowing that some efforts will come to naught but a few will flourish.
It is poisonous to science to get mixed up in cultish pursuits like the GW
hysteria.
