X-Message-Number: 3257 Date: 13 Oct 94 00:09:38 EDT From: Paul Wakfer <> Subject: CRYONICS Merkle's Comment >From Ralph Merkle in CryoMsg 3253: >I would encourage those signed up with CryoCare to seriously consider >the option of having CI provide long term storage. It would be oh, so easy to flame concerning this seemingly innocent, but actually gratuitously insulting comment -- but I won't. However, it should be clear to everyone the such remarks whether supported or not, from a scientist of Merkle's stature can be extremely damaging to CryoSpan's financial viability. Furthermore, since I am just completing a major business plan/financial prospectus for CryoSpan which will be available to potential investors before the end of October, this comment couldn't have come at a worse time. Therefore, I must formally request that Ralph Merkle, as an objective scientist, surely not wishing to rest on the argument from authority, fully state his reasons for that statement in this forum and sci.cryonics. Since I, at least, can promise that this will be nothing but a financial, technological, and scientific discussion, I believe that these forums are appropriate. CryoSpan is a for-profit company of which I am president and major shareholder. It does CryoSpan shareholders, and me personally nothing but harm if my exhaustive months-long considerations concerning where and how CryoSpan's long-term patient care should be done, turn out to be wrong. If Ralph Merkle or anyone else has some knowledge or reasoning in this regard which is superior to mine, I am the first person who wants to know about it. Any such information or superior reasoning is especially welcome at this time, since the design work, by General Physics Corporation, on the CryoSpan underground earthquake-proof vault system has now been started and actual construction work will soon begin. If I am making a mistake, I need to know now, before I waste my, and my shareholder's money. As a long-time dedicated cryonicist, I am certain that Ralph Merkle will wish to help me in this regard.
