Some of these will come around sooner or later." Thank you Bob. This is perfect. Now everyone can see that I was not just making this stuff up. Many people in cryonics really do think this way. Gerald Monroe writes: "your attitude is that those who bring more stuff with them when they enter the cave should receive preferential treatment and we should throw out some of the poorer individuals out into the cold, because it isn't 'profitable' to care for them." Well, uh, yes, that is my attitude. And at the end of the article I applied this principle to myself. I do think my cryonics arrangements should be paid for by me, not partly by some other people, now or in the future. Gerald also asks, "What's the alternative?" to the current situation. Well, Alcor could double its dues and fees and lose half its membership. I think this would be a good thing for the organization. It survived perfectly well at a smaller size, and could continue to do so, on a more fiscally prudent basis. Those who leave Alcor can always join CI, and they would save money even at current rates. Moreover if Alcor became more clearly fiscally prudent, it might attract more wealthy members. There is certainly room for an expensive organization providing genuinely first-class service, and a cheaper organization providing no-frills service. --Charles Platt Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=32982
