Subject: CRYONICS Admin: Moving CryoNet (Update)

I plan to move the cryonics mailing list (CryoNet) to cryonet.org
on Mon. January 16. Unless you want to ensure that your email
address cannot be revealed by the Majordomo "who" command, there
is nothing special that you need to do about that now. In fact,
you won't need to change much even after the move. Here is what
I plan to do on Jan. 16:

  (1) I'll send to the commands to subscribe
everyone who currently is receiving the cryonics mailing list
      at the old site ().
  (2) Majordomo will email to each of the new subscribers a message
describing CryoNet at cryonet.org, with instructions for posting,
      retrieving archive files, and subscribing/unsubscribing.
  (3) I'll deactivate all the email addresses at the old site for
      the main cryonics mailing list.

You will be able to post messages to the cryonics mailing list in two
different ways. You can send them (with "CRYONICS" in the Subject line)
to the same address you use now or you can send them (without "CRYONICS"
in the Subject line) to The cryonet.org address
will be best, though, because the automatic forwarding from whscad1.att.com
to cryonet.org can take several hours during the busy times of the day.

Some parts of the move will be incomplete on January 16. For example,

  (A) The CRYONICS.POLITICS list probably will not yet be moved to
cryonet.org. (It depends on how soon I can get a second mailing
list ready at cryonet.org.) In that case, any postings to
CRYONICS.POLITICS still will need to go to "".
  (B) Not all the archives will be at cryonet.org, although certainly
the recent messages will be there and most of the 00* general
reference kinds of messages will be there.
  (C) Some of the nonstandard features of the current mailing list
(such as "CRYOKILL" to unpost your messages before mailblast time)
      may not be available.

Since the old archives will remain at for the
forseeable future, you will have three different options for retrieving
archive files:

  (1) the old method at the old address: send email to
with a Subject line of the form "CRYOMSG nnnn" where "nnnn" describes
      which files to retrieve,
  (2) the old method at the new address: send email to
(the same address as the posting address) with a "CRYOMSG nnnn"
      Subject line as before,
  (3) a new method at the new address: send email to
with a command of the form "get nnnn" in the first nonblank line
of the message body. The subject line will be ignored.
(This method is similar to the standard Majordomo method for
      retrieving archive files.)

Actually, there will is a fourth method. Point your WWW browser to URL:
    http://www.c2.org/~kqb/cryonet.html
during the (way) off-peak times for the West Coast and select the archives
you want interactively. Since c2.org's net connection still is slow,
though, you probably will prefer the three email methods above.

Complicating Factors

It would be nice if the move was completely transparent to everyone on the
list, but unfortunately some changes or discrepancies were unavoidable.

  (A) The message numbers at cryonet.org are not quite the same as at
whscad1.att.com, as I explained in a previous message. Expect
your digest on January 16 to skip a few message numbers, although
probably no messages will be missing.
For messages posted within the past few weeks, archive retrievals
at cryonet.org will need to use slightly different message numbers
than at whscad1.att.com. (You can retrieve message 0001 to find
      the new message numbers.)
  (B) The cryonet.org digests will be get emailed between 2 AM and 4 AM
Pacific time, since that is the least busy period of the day.
(Currently the digests get emailed 8 PM Eastern time, which is 5 PM
      Pacific time.)

I'll send more information about the move within the next week.
