Re Mike Darwin's reply to Ettinger (#3711):

For the most part, I found Mike's argument to be hollow. For all his
examples, I could just as well provide examples to the contrary, but
unlike Mike I have more respect for the privacy of frozen patients.
Even if we just use their numbers, once they are revived, it should be up
to *them* to decide whether or not they want to have their personal
problems and family histories aired in public. (Btw, an important
coping strategy is to assume that patients will *indeed* be revived!)
I think that Ettinger's best point was that it is the rest of the
world that's nuts, not us.

It's likely that some Alcor patients may have in fact documented their
mental illness in their paperwork, but I don't see that as a valid excuse
to use them in a particularly unproductive debating strategy. For that
matter, using the tragic deaths of two cryonics patients to bolster your
own reputation is also poor form.

Ever forward,

David
