About Isamu Suda:

My information is out of date, since this happened years ago, but it may
help others in searching. I visited Japan about 1978, and stopped by at
Kobe University specifically to find and speak to Dr. Suda. At that time
he had retired from research and become the President of Kobe University.
He actually called in a photographer to take a photo of my wrist
bracelet ... so in some sense the effect of his work on himself was not
zero.

I also read recently (just in the newspaper) that the U of Kobe had just
gotten a new President. Whether that means that Suda died in office and was
replaced, or simply retired, I don't know. But it may provide a start;
if you are really interested, the simple thing to do is to write the
President of U. of Kobe (there will probably be a delay, first because of
English, and second because of the earthquake). If you want to spend a lot
of money, a phone call would probably work; I will say, though, that even
though a significant number of Japanese can READ English, their speaking
ability isn't that good ... so your phone call may last for some time.

			Best and long long life,
